Chicago, IL. JANUARY 12, 2015. The Modern Dance Music Research and Archive Foundation (Dance Music Foundation @DanceMusicFound) welcomes all to our 2015 House Music Collaborations Series: Jesse Saunders and Vince Lawrence. These House Music Pioneers produced and pressed what is considered to be one of the FIRST House Music Records in history, “ON AND ON” in Jesse Saunders’ house at 7234 South King Drive on Chicago’s South Side. House Music and its evolution to Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is now a global billion dollar industry. This will be Jesse and Vince’s FIRST public conversation EVER discussing their memories and contributions on their iconic hits including “On and On” and "Funk U Up" (the first House track to ever make it onto the Billboard charts). These pioneers and scholars will also discuss their current careers and their thoughts on how House Music and Dance has transformed. The FREE panel discussion will be held at GrandBar, 1600 West Grand Avenue – Saturday, January 31st 5:30pm – 7:30pm
All “Househeads,” students, music lovers and academics are encouraged to attend this FREE event! The Modern Dance Music Research and Archiving Foundation’s 2015 #HouseCollaborations Series will examine how important collaboration was in early House Music creation. These organic partnerships created iconic, groundbreaking and what continues to be exceptionally significant music. This panel series will explore the origins of these relationships, how they sustained or expanded and how 1980’s and 90’s Chicago is critical to House Music’s success and worldwide explosion. The Dance Music Foundations Chief Archivist Lauren Lowery suggests “Chicago House Music Pioneers including Saunders and Lawrence authored the current billion dollar Electronic Dance Music scene and their influence, though still largely anonymous, runs deep and continues today. We are so lucky to capture the narratives and anecdotes of these Chicago treasures while these guys are still alive and here to tell the story.”
The Modern Dance Music Research and Archive Foundation (Dance Music Foundation), based in Chicago, documents and preserves House and Dance Music artifacts, scholarship and memories to reveal its significance and Global impact.
